5 steps to becoming more confident

Art by Rikkisha West

Building confidence is a gradual process and can be worked on everyday. You can take big leaps or small steps, whichever you feel most comfortable with.

1)Practicing self-love.

I think the most important aspect to work on first is self love, once you are able to love all the light and dark parts of yourself and accept your flaws the confidence will start to shine through.

2)Acknowledge Your Strengths and Accomplishments.

Take time to reflect on what you’re good at and the things you’ve achieved. Keep a journal of your successes, big or small. Recognizing your strengths helps reinforce a positive self-image, which is a foundation for confidence.

3)Set Achievable Goals.

Start by setting small, realistic goals that you can accomplish. Success in these smaller tasks will build your confidence to tackle bigger challenges. Make sure your goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART)

4)Challenge Negative Thoughts.

When you notice negative self-talk, challenge it by questioning its validity. Replace these thoughts with positive affirmations or more balanced perspectives. Practice self-compassion and be kind to yourself when things don’t go as planned.

5)Step Out of Your Comfort Zone.

Gradually expose yourself to new situations that push your boundaries. This could be as simple as speaking up in a meeting or trying a new hobby. Each time you face a fear or challenge, you gain more confidence in your ability to handle the unknown.
